It has been a while.
I have been watching the proceedings from GAFCON- the Global Anglican Future Conference in Jerusalem. This meeting was called as a run up to Lambeth by conservative Anglicans to meet for worship, support, dialogue and strategic thinking about how to respond to the Western churches shift away from the authority of Scripture and the Anglican communion.
Google GAFCON and decide what they are about for yourself. I see thoughtful, intelligent, prayerful people seeking a way to move forward without violating scripture or the bonds of love and friendhip that ought to bind Christian brothers and sisters, and parishes and dioceses. Canon Smart of our diocese sees “a man who would be king” and, if precedent is any indication, engages in ad hominem attacks on those with whom he disagrees.
On a happier note, yesterday we had our third annual Stone Duck Classic- some 68 golfers participated and there were about 92 for dinner following. Golf at Lac Brome was fun, it was nice to see all the carts shiny and waiting for us. I golfed with Ellyn, my 6 year old daughter, Cameron, a 9 year old from church and Arnee Holloway who once vowed never to pick up a golf club. (Curious with a nick name like Arnee?) We saw frogs, geese, ducks, but very few birdies. But finished with a respectable 5 over par.
The dinner at the McKinnon’s was wonderful, and the setting sun was gorgeous. Knowlton and the friends of the McKinnons were very generous with their prize donations so no one left empty handed.
We collected $6000, the proceeds of which will go to support Moving Muscles Ride, and the Muscular Dystrophy Society.
I think that Ben Hogan said that a good golf shot “goes up your arms and into your heart.” Those moments when everything happens as it should, effortless, smooth, perfect- those are joyful moments. I think God loves giving those moments to us. Which is why I think God hates diseases like MD, ALS, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, that debilitate our ability to participate in his world and why I am glad to partner with the McKinnon’s, Martin’s, Bell’s, Moving Muscles Ride and the MDSC. I hope to get some pictures to post, if I can figure out how.
Tomorrow at Church we will be talking about Sanctification- Becoming who we are… In Christ.
2 Services- 8:00 and 10:00 Morning Prayer and Service of the Word.
We will be learning a new song (new to us) by Graham Kendrick called “The Lord is Present Here.” You be too.
That’s all for now.
Blessings,
All.
